Sampling

HERZOG is offering sampling, splitting and dosing solutions over an extensive range of different applications. This allows the selection of the correct and most cost-effective system according to the application requirements. Our equipment is designed and customizable to suit the material characteristics and properties as well as the technical and project specification of the clients. Our solutions are used worldwide by internal clients including cement, mining and recycling companies.

Overview of samplers, splitters and dosing units recommended for sampling of various materials. The choice of the equipment depends from the material, heterogeneity, grain size, targeted accuracy and precision and many other factors.

Error prevention

Especially for sampling and splitting systems, we set high priority to provide representative, i.e. accurate and unbiased samples for the specific material. Sampling stationary lots and material streams of moving matter constitutes the beginning of a multi-stage process, which is frequently underestimated or unknown as an error sources in analytics. In reality, sampling errors dominate the total measurement uncertainty budget, typically by factors 10-25.

Sampling errors can occur at almost all stages of the sampling and preparation process. The final analytical result aS is an estimate of the starting lot aL. The accuracy of aL is significantly influenced by the methods and units used for sampling and splitting.

HERZOG is providing tried-and-tested systems being highly efficient and meeting the needs of many customers. In complex instances, it might be necessary to modify existing or develop new approaches. The systems are designed according to principles of Theory of Sampling in order to minimize measurement uncertainty and incorrect sampling errors and to improve ultimate accuracy and validity of analytical results.
The Replication Experiment (RE) has been established to estimate the effective variance (error/uncertainty) of all types of sampling procedures and equipment at work. RE does not require special experimental setups, but works directly on the routine process measurements/sampling results themselves. RE works with data from the actual implemented equipment and will thus qualify samplers in the most relevant setting for the client. RE qualifies with a simple % variance estimate, Relative Sampling Variability (RSV), easy to understand without recourse to complicated statistics.
HERZOG only sell samplers to clients with a proper RE qualification. HERZOG offers to evaluate all existing samplers with the authoritative RE. Clients can trust HERZOG’s objective evaluation 100%. All sampling consulting, products and services offered by HERZOG are exclusively based on the Theory of Sampling (TOS).
