- descriptions of the term:
Tool Condition Monitoring (TCM)
Tool Condition Monitoring (TCM) refers to the continuous monitoring of tool condition during operation. The goal is the early detection of wear, damage, or unusual operating conditions.
Tool monitoring plays a particularly important role in automated laboratories, as tool conditions can directly affect the quality of sample preparation and, consequently, the analysis results.
Modern TCM systems measure various process parameters such as torque, current consumption, vibrations, temperature, and image data. Intelligent algorithms are used to detect and evaluate changes.
Early identification of critical conditions helps prevent unplanned downtime and enables targeted planning of maintenance measures. At the same time, process reliability is increased and the service life of tools is optimized.
With PrepMaster Analytics, HERZOG offers a range of specialized condition monitoring modules for various sample preparation applications. These include, among others, modules for monitoring milling inserts, grinding vessels and grinding tools, sieving machines, and pneumatic cylinders. Depending on the application, sensor, process, or image data is continuously analyzed to detect wear, leaks, or other changes in condition at an early stage. The modules thus support predictive maintenance strategies, increase plant availability, and contribute to consistently high-quality sample preparation.
