REPRODUCIBILITY

Process standardization and automation are the key enabler for reproducible and consistent analysis results. Due to the decade-long experience HERZOG has developed proven technologies to minimize material loss and to avoid cross-contamination during sample preparation. According to the material and preparation procedure, special measures are taken for preventing material waste and effective cleaning between each sample batch.

VELOCITY

Modern production requires online monitoring of the manufacturing processes. HERZOG systems have been designed as high-speed solutions to guarantee an optimum process performance even at a high sample throughput. To achieve this goal, we use perfectly tuned components, optimized handling systems and intelligent control systems on PLC and Scada-level for full capacity utilization.

RELIABILITY

One of HERZOG main focuses is process reliability in each automation step to reduce errors, minimize downtime, and improve productivity. Therefore, HERZOG combines tried-and-tested technology, use of high-quality components and efficient process control with individual concepts for complete redundancy and backup.

SAFETY

Protection of operating personnel is a significant part of our automation process. Hazards and risks with any industrial application are thoroughly analyzed. HERZOG provides a broad portfolio to meet your unique process safety requirements.

INTEGRATION

Due to its long business relationships HERZOG cooperates with nearly all other manufactures in the different markets. That is why a large variety of instruments necessary for sample preparation including third-party machines, handling systems, analyzers (XRF, OES, CNS, radioactivity etc.), PLC, and sensory systems (balances, grain sizer, optical systems etc.) can easily be integrated.

DIGITAL DATA

Our digital solutions provide you with a comprehensive and quick overview of the performance of your automation system and machines. With the help of PrepMaster Analytics, you can easily obtain information about all the relevant key performance indicators of your plant including utilization, performance and maintenance status. Many machines are equipped with a sensor-based automatic system for tool condition monitoring (TCM) and predictive maintenance (PM).

SAMPLING

Representative sampling is a critical success factor for achieving the highest quality analytical accuracy and precision needed in process control. Mastering primary sampling is especially important for the automated analytical laboratory.

HERZOG offers equipment, consultancy, seminars based on the principles of Theory of Sampling (TOS).

THEORY OF SAMPLING

The Theory of Sampling (TOS) has been developed by the French scientist Pierre Gy (1924-2015). It is the only fully comprehensive approach covering all factors influencing representative sampling. TOS provides all necessary tools to achieve reliable material characterization and process control.

Only representative aliquots reduce the measurement uncertainty (MU) of the full sampling and analysis process to its desired minimum. Current MU approaches do not take sufficient account of all sources affecting the measurement process, in particular the impact of sampling errors. All pre-analysis sampling steps including laboratory mass reduction significantly influence the total MU.

Most sampling errors are not included in the current MU framework, including incorrect sampling errors (ISEs), which are only defined in the TOS. If ISEs are not appropriately reduced, or fully eliminated, all measurement uncertainty estimates are subject to uncontrollable and inestimable sampling bias which cannot be subjected to conventional bias-correction. TOS provides all the theoretical and practical countermeasures required for the task.

HERZOG and KHE Consulting offer consulting with a focus on representative sampling. In addition, we have developed a special course program to provide an introduction to the TOS principles and their application to industrial processes. Representative sampling is a critical success factor for the economic bottom line, helping to reduce or eliminate all unnecessary sampling, handling, preparation and measurement errors. Therefore, TOS principles are integral part of the project work for our clients.

SEMINARS

HERZOG and KHE Consulting offer introductory seminars and comprehensive training courses on “Theory of Sampling”. The collaboration between both companies aims to raise awareness and teach practical competence in sampling and process monitoring also in the laboratory. The ultimate purpose is to reduce all unnecessary sampling and handling errors and maximize the process efficiency.

Seminar „Theory of Sampling“
Sampling stationary lots and streams of moving matter constitutes the beginning of a multi-stage process, which is frequently underestimated as an error sources in analytics. In fact, sampling errors dominate the total error budget by factors 10-25.
This seminar introduces all basic principles underlining representative sampling with a focus on primary sampling of stationary lots. The seminar addresses the six governing principles of sampling and the four working principles of sampling unit operations.
This seminar gives participants a working overview of how to guarantee that only representative sampling procedures and equipment are used. In case the existing procedures are found insufficient, TOS has the right tool box to implement the necessary improvements.

Seminar „Variographics“
This seminar presents the topic “Principles of variographics” for advanced operators and is based on the seminar “Theory of Sampling”.
Variographic analysis of process data is a versatile tool to analyze the variability of data and attribute it to sampling or analytical errors. In this way it is possible to determine the underlying reason for data fluctuations which is often hidden by the total error. The seminar teaches in a practical way how TOS can be employed to reduce and eliminate unnecessary errors which cannot be detected by ordinary statistical approaches.
