descriptions of the term:

Clinker

Clinker is the most important intermediate product in cement production. It is formed by burning a homogenized raw meal at temperatures of approximately 1,450 °C in a rotary kiln.

During the burning process, various mineralogical phases form, which are later responsible for the cement’s strength development. The most important clinker phases include alite (C₃S), belite (C₂S), aluminate (C₃A), and ferrite (C₄AF).

The quality of the clinker directly influences the performance of the final product. Therefore, both the chemical composition and the mineralogical properties are continuously monitored.

In routine applications, XRF and XRD are the primary analytical techniques used for quality control. In particular, the analysis of clinker phases plays a key role in optimizing kiln operation.

Automated laboratory solutions enable fast and reliable monitoring of clinker quality and support process control in modern cement plants.
