- name of the term: GDOES
- descriptions of the term:
GDOES
GDOES (Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy) is a spectroscopic analytical method for investigating the chemical composition and depth distribution of elements in solids.
Unlike conventional OES, GDOES can determine not only the overall composition but also concentration profiles across the depth of the material. This makes the method particularly suitable for analyzing coatings, surface treatments, and diffusion layers.
During the analysis, the sample surface is selectively ablated by a glow discharge. At the same time, the released atoms are analyzed spectroscopically.
Typical applications can be found in the steel industry, the automotive industry, coating technology, and materials research.
Precisely prepared sample surfaces are required for reliable results. Automated sample preparation systems ensure reproducible conditions and high-quality analysis.
