- descriptions of the term:
LIMS
LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) is a software solution for managing laboratory samples, analytical data, and workflows. The goal of a LIMS is the complete documentation and traceability of all laboratory processes.
LIMS manages sample orders, analysis results, calibration data, quality controls, and reports. In addition, it supports compliance with regulatory requirements and enables seamless traceability of all laboratory activities.
In automated industrial laboratories, LIMS often serves as the overarching system for managing analysis orders. The actual sample preparation and analysis are then carried out by laboratory automation systems and analytical instruments.
Through standardized interfaces, SCADA systems, lab robots, and analytical instruments can automatically exchange data with LIMS. This improves data consistency and reduces manual data entry.
With PrepMaster Analytics, HERZOG offers a powerful software suite that already covers a large portion of traditional LIMS functionality. In addition to managing and evaluating analytical data, the platform supports reporting, quality monitoring, statistical process control (SPC), and customizable dashboards. Furthermore, PrepMaster Analytics processes additional information from sample preparation, process parameters, and machine and equipment statuses. If needed, this processed data can be transferred to a higher-level LIMS or other IT systems, creating a seamless information base for the laboratory, production, and quality management.
HERZOG solutions support both the standalone use of PrepMaster Analytics and its integration into existing LIMS, MES, and ERP systems, thereby enabling a seamless flow of information between laboratory automation, analytics, and production.
