descriptions of the term:

Microwave Digestion

Microwave digestion is a modern method for the rapid and efficient dissolution of solid samples using microwave energy and chemical reagents.

The sample is heated together with suitable acids in sealed pressure vessels. The targeted application of energy achieves high temperatures and pressures, enabling rapid and complete digestion.

The method is used in numerous fields, including environmental analysis, food analysis, chemistry, mining, and materials testing.

Advantages include short processing times, low reagent consumption, and high reproducibility. At the same time, the risk of contamination is reduced.

Automated microwave digestion systems enable standardized sample preparation and often serve as the basis for subsequent ICP-OES or ICP-MS analyses.
