Automation for the Chemical industry

Input and output racks for containers

The ICPLabs enable the handling of a wide range of standard laboratory vessels. A variety of different container lids, including screw caps and snap-on lids, can be opened and closed automatically. Vessels are conveniently loaded through special drawer systems - by the operator or by mobile robotic systems.

Liquid Transfer Unit

There is an efficient solution for transferring a sample liquid from one container to another: the Liquid Transfer Unit offers various options for fractionation: For smaller volumes, the transfer is carried out using a pipette, for larger volumes using a hose-valve system. In either case, the risk of contamination is minimized by effective cleaning mechanisms.

Homogenizer Unit

HERZOG provides various units for the homogenization of samples. These include platform shakers with different types of movement, vortex shakers, overhead shakers, and magnetic stirrers. Thus, this routine process step can be optimally adapted to each application.

Hotblock unit

Thermal energy for extraction and mineralization processes can be introduced via different heating systems, which can also be mounted on platform shakers. The reaction vessels can be fitted with watch glasses. To protect against corrosion, the heating units are equipped with special extraction devices.

Liquid Dosing Unit

Dosing is carried out either with peristaltic or syringe pumps for optimum dosing quantity and accuracy - depending on the application. Up to five different sample quantities including spike and reference sample can be dosed in one unit as standard. Liquid level detection (LLD) can be carried out using an ultrasonic detector or camera system.

Centrifugation Unit

In the ICPLab, the centrifugation of different sample volumes is fully automated. As a rule, swing-out rotors are used. However, it is also possible to equip fixed-angle rotors for special applications with higher speeds. Cooling during centrifugation is also possible as an option.

Analysis Transfer Unit

The analysis liquid can be supplied directly to the analyzer via the Analysis Transfer Unit. If necessary, a filter is automatically interposed to filter out any solids. Alternatively, the Liquid Transfer Unit can be used to dispense the liquid into vials suitable for the autosampler of the analysis instrument.

Portal system

The handling of the vials within the system is carried out using an x-/y-z- portal system. The grippers of the portal system are designed for reliable transportation of the vessels. At the same time, their special design enables space-saving positioning within the units of the ICPLab and the input and output racks.

Simple analysis of sample liquids

There are two ways to transfer the analysis liquid to the analyzer in the LiquidLab

ICP Transfer Unit:

The analysis liquid can be supplied directly to the instrument via the ICP Transfer Unit. If necessary, an intermediate filter can intercept solid particles.

Liquid Transfer Unit:

Alternatively, the analysis liquid can be dispensed into suitable vials using the Liquid Transfer Unit, which are then inserted into the instrument's autosampler via a rack. In this case, the respective sample ident is automatically exchanged between the HERZOG PrepMaster and the analysis instrument. Feedback on the analysis result can be sent to the PrepMaster and may result in further actions such as a new preparation, analysis or rejection of the sample.

Automatic ball mills

As an alternative to grinding with a ring and stone, we offer you our HP-SKM vibrating ball mill. Used as part of a robot automation system, it enables the grinding of materials in grinding vessels up to a size of 125 ccm.

The HERZOG HP-PKM planetary ball mill is integrated into an automatic belt system and can accommodate grinding vessels with a volume of up to 250 ccm. After grinding, the sample material is automatically removed and can then be fed to further preparation and analysis processes (option).

In addition to fully automatic systems, we also offer a large selection of manual and semi-automatic pulverizers and presses in first-class quality.

Automatic oscillating ball mill
Sample preparation for XRD analysis

We provide special automation equipment for the preparation of samples to be analyzed by diffractometry: The HERZOG HP-PD6 diffractometer press enables the production of pressed tablets with optimum properties for XRD analysis.

The dosing unit of the HP-PD6 precisely doses the material into the ring. The dosing unit is then cleaned without leaving any residue so that carry-over into subsequent samples is prevented. The material is compacted inside the ring at low pressure to avoid an orientation of the crystal structure. The automatically inserted button provides the necessary stabilization of the material within the ring. These proven preparatory steps create excellent conditions for successful Rietvield analysis.
