The turbidity module of our SparkPoint vision software is a cutting-edge solution for laboratories that apply the highest standards to the analysis of liquids. Our software solution allows for the precise detection of turbidity and the detection of foreign bodies in a wide range of different liquids. Using a high-resolution camera system in conjunction with controlled LED backlighting, the module can visualize the finest particles and determine their size, shape and proportion in the sample. This makes it possible, for example, to automatically assess the efficiency of different digestion methods without the intervention of a laboratory technician. Other possible applications include the assessment of water or wastewater samples in environmental analysis laboratories.Innovative image processing for reliable results
Innovative image processing for reliable results
A framework of established thresholding methods and adaptive binning techniques is at the heart of SparkPoint Turbidity. The adaptive methods are particularly useful for detecting finely distributed structures and smaller particles. Targeted morphological operations can be used to reduce noise and unwanted artifacts, further increasing the accuracy of particle detection. A key advantage here is the flexible adjustment of the threshold values, which can be dynamically adapted to the respective material and its light transmission.
The turbidity of the liquid is quantified using a differentiated histogram analysis, in which clear and cloudy samples differ significantly in brightness distribution and peak width. These data are finally incorporated into a comprehensive and integrated evaluation, automatically carried out by the module. The result is a highly reliable analysis that forms the basis for informed decisions in production or research processes. When the SparkPoint module is integrated into a Herzog LiquidLab, all further preparation steps can be carried out fully automatically based on the image analysis.
Intelligent design for reliable and fail-safe operation
SparkPoint Turbidity can be combined with a magnetic stirrer. The magnetic stirrer can be used to resuspend any sedimented particles that might otherwise have escaped detection by the camera. The software automatically recognizes the particle movement caused by the stirring process and includes it in the liquid analysis.
In addition, SparkPoint Turbidity is able to detect impurities, scratches or other lesions on the glass surface of the liquid containers and to distinguish them from possible particles within the liquid. This significantly improves process reliability and minimizes the need for operator intervention.
User-friendly operation and convenient evaluation
A key aspect of the SparkPoint Turbidity module is its intuitive operation. The analysis area can be defined either manually by moving predefined corner points or automatically by using the integrated default function. The software considers the individual requirements of different sample vessels, so there is no additional work involved with frequent sample changes.
After a sample has been recorded and evaluated, the system presents the measurement data obtained in a clearly laid out table or detailed view. The results of the turbidity measurement and particle detection are clearly highlighted. Adjustments to the classification limits can be made in real time, enabling a flexible response to changing conditions. A history function also supports the tracking of samples that have already been analyzed and facilitates process documentation for internal quality control or external audits.
In addition, all results, including any images, can be transferred to the Sample Vita module of PrepMaster Analytics. This makes it possible to perform more in-depth analyses, for example in connection with analytical results.
