This Application Note highlights the potential impact of grinding process variability in disc mills on the repeatability of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis of cement samples, particularly when using two different disc mills in one laboratory. A study assessing the repeatability of XRF analysis for ten CEM II/A-LL 42,5 R cement samples prepared on two HP-MP disc mills in a German cement plant laboratory showed excellent repeatability in each machine. The comparison between the two mills revealed mostly congruent results with negligible differences for some elements, supported by highly reproducible and uniform grinding processes as indicated by acceleration data.
